As Spring Begins
Winter is beginning to subside………YAY! A brutal two months of below freezing temps, some of them in the negative digits, didn’t lend themselves to cheeriness unless you’re an outdoor enthusiast. Kudos to those of you who are but I am not. My outdoor activity consists of barn chores, plain and simple. The welfare of my animals comes before mine of course, and while they are self efficient with their wool fleeces I do worry about frost bitten noses and ears. Thank goodness they have a barn into which they can escape the wind and the precipitation. For this I am truly thankful.
We’re entering March now and today is filled with sunshine. Even though it’s still below freezing, the sun is stronger and makes it feel warmer than it is. I am happier and more willing to do my barn chores with a smile. The sheep are casually laying in the sunshine on the scattering of hay from the haybale in the pasture. The cats are even venturing out to sit in the porch sun for a few minutes. Spring is right around the corner and it feels good.
Martin and I have been busy in the workshops working in preparation for this year’s festivals. My fun has been fiber preparation and booth design. Yarn bowls and shields have been his main focus lately as Shepherds Harvest Sheep and Wool Festival will be our first event in May. Following that there will be the St. Cloud Spin Fest in June as well as The Great Northern Viking Festival the following weekend. Nothing like hitting the ground running to have some fun.
I hope you will drop by and see us at one or all of these wonderful events. We love meeting new people, seeing old friends, and look forward to seeing you!
